Grid Administration
The Grid Administration tab is your central command center for managing AppColab Grid within your Salesforce organization. It provides vital insights into grid usage, license management, and performance constraints.

Overview
When you navigate to the Grid Administration tab, you will see a comprehensive dashboard broken down into key sections:
- Active Grids Overview: Quickly observe how many grids are currently active out of your allocated limit.
- Assigned Licenses: Review the total number of users who have been granted access to AppColab Grid out of the total available licenses.
- Organization Details: View your current Salesforce Organization type (e.g., Developer Edition, Sandbox, Production) to contextualize your limits.
License Management
Access to the Grid Browser and Grid Definitions requires the correct permissions and an available license.
Assigning Licenses
- From the License Details section, administrators can view how many licenses are assigned versus how many are available.
- If you are in a Sandbox or Developer Edition organization, all users generally have unlimited license access for testing purposes.
- In Production, you must have adequate purchased licenses. You can grant access to users directly utilizing standard Salesforce permission set assignments for the
Appcolab_Grid_Adminand core grid user permission sets.
Enforcing Limits (Viewing Blocks)
To ensure the system remains performant and to manage differing tiers of service, AppColab Grid is subject to structural limits.
The 2 Active Grids Limit
By default, the free tier of AppColab Grid enforces a strict limit:
- You may only have a maximum of 2 active grids at any one time.
- "Active" means the grid is enabled and capable of rendering in the Grid Browser or Record Pages.
- You may configure and save as many inactive grids as you wish.
Handling "Limit Exceeded" Blocks
If an administrator activates a 3rd grid (exceeding the standard 2 active grid rule without a premium upgrade), proactive governance will trigger:
- Block Activation: Any non-admin user attempting to view a grid will encounter a "Limit Exceeded" warning block. The grids will fail to successfully load data.
- Resolution: The user is provided instructions to contact their Salesforce Administrator. The Administrator must navigate to the Grid Administration tab, then use the Grid Usage panel to deactivate grids until only 2 remain active.
- Upgrading: If your organization consistently requires more than 2 active grids simultaneously, you are encouraged to purchase an expanded license, which will instantly unlock the ability to activate more grids without blocks.
